Professor Donata Medaglini
Professor of Microbiology, Head of the Laboratory of Microbial Immunity in the Department of Medical Biotechnology and Vice-Rector for Life Sciences at the University of Siena
Donata Medaglini is also Vice-President of Sclavo Vaccines Association, and is the Italian Representative on the H2020 Programme Committee “Nanotechnologies, Advanced materials, Biotechnology and Advanced Manufacturing and Processing”. She has more than 20 years of research activity in the field of microbiology, mucosal immunology and vaccines, and she holds a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Genova. From 1992-1994 Donata was Research Associate in the Laboratory of Bacterial Pathogenesis and Immunology at The Rockefeller University (New York). 1996-2001 saw her as non-tenured Professor of Microbiology at the University of Siena, followed by National Expert at the European Commission, Directorate General Research, Poverty-related Diseases Unit. Since 2003 she has been Professor of Microbiology at the University of Siena. Donata has authored/co-authored several publications in international peer-reviewed journals. She has extensive experience in scientific coordination of large collaborative projects (MUVAPRED, 2003-2009), and is the Scientific Coordinator of the High Impact project “Advanced Immunization Technologies” supported by EU DG Research and Innovation. She is the Coordinator of the VSV-EBOVAC project on ”Vaccine safety and immunogenicity signatures of human responses to VSV-ZEBOV” supported by IMI.
