Dr. Kanta Subbarao, M.B.B.S., M.P.H.

Dr. Subbarao received her M.B.B.S. from the Christian Medical College, Vellore, India, and trained in pediatrics and pediatric infectious diseases and earned an M.P.H. in epidemiology in the USA. After postdoctoral training at the NIH, she served on the faculty at McGill University, Montreal, Canada, and was Chief of the Molecular Genetics Section of the Influenza Branch at the CDC. Dr. Subbarao joined the NIH in 2002 where she is Chief of the Emerging Respiratory Viruses Section of the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases. Dr. Subbarao’s research is focused on newly emerging viral diseases of global importance: pandemic influenza, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
